The Gathering
- On Most
Surfaces |
This has the
long, grandeous,
slightly heavy
introduction
that we have
come accustomed
to with this
band's songs.
This intro leads
to a very open
winter landscape
of a verse. She
even SAYs
winter? She
seems low/hidden
in the
background. This
is the new
singer right?
This turns into
a CHURNING and
meandering song
that probably
lacks the
melodicy of
their others,
but the more
mysterious sound
of the song is a
little more
intriguing. |

Silverchair -
One Way Mule |
You know a lot
of people
complain that
this song is the
black sheep of
Diorama, which
is completely
dumb. Sure it's
heavier than
anything else on
there, but it
friggin ROCKS.
Excellent lyrics
too. Friggin
epic rocker and
headbanger
bridge. |

Sufjan
Stevens - The
Avalanche |
A grand
departure from
our first two
rockers lol. I
like how he's
come into the
picture. The
flute is NICE!
He sounds as
good as ever
here. I like his
vocal harmonies
in this song. I
like the clash
of the
instruments at
the end. Flute
is awesome! |

Sense Field -
Beatles Song |
This song title
is hilarious.
Rocking guitar
in the beginning
right away! When
the verses come
in, it sounds
like Semisonic,
although
heavier. It
rocks, fair
amount of emo,
but rocks! |

The Gathering
- Treasure |
I like the
fluffy
distortion! Her
voice is
immediately
better and
cleaner in this.
Good beat, not
something they
are known for,
but it's an
upbeat beat.
This is a really
good middle of
summer song, it
has that lost
feeling. A GOOD
lost. This was
more enjoyable
than the first
one in many
ways. |

John Mayer -
Why, Georgia |
I believe this
was a single? I
remember this
title. There's
actually more
country-fried
cooking in this.
His vocals are
"lazy" and
relaxed. Works
to his song's
intentions.
Excellet melody! |

Dinosaur Jr.
- They Always
Come |
There is quickly
some GREAT
GUITAR WORK
GOING ON HERE.
Usually indie
bands use simple
power chords,
but Dino uses
pretty
complicated
licks, the kinds
of guitars you
won't typically
see with
material THIS
garagey. This
bridge gets
downright grungy
and waily...this
is intense
guitars. The
production is
good for stuff
this thick and
thrashy. His
vocals sort of
wail lol. They
really, truly
rock. They know
garage. |

Sense Field -
Weight of the
World |
The emo is amped
up even more in
this one!! LOL!
He actually
sounds a bit
like Dave Grohl
in this..that
straining voice.
Again excellent
guitar swells,
this is a
rollercoaster of
a song
emotionally. The
chorus is
complex but
memorable. WHO
KNEW: Sense
Field?!?!? |

Andy |
The Smiths -
Some Girls Are
Bigger Than
Others |
He's being a
little broad
with his song
title name LOL!
This is just as
springy as their
others...springy
guitars (not the
season). But
springy. Alive.
Jumpy. As
confusing as the
title line is,
it's very
catchy. He sort
of ho-hums the
lines and then
the music
carries it off
to the end. |

Coldplay -
Moses (Live) |
This is a
timeless classic
from Aug 2007.
The guitar
harmonics are
beyond
believable...very
memorable
notes!!! I like
his big falsetto
"ahhhhhhh" God
that brings
chills. The end
guitar, i don't
know how they
get that tone
LIVE!!!!!!!!! |

John Mayer -
City Love |
Whether or not a
more muscular
sound like this
one can support
his voice or not
is debatable.
There's a fair
amount of soul
in this guitar
and singing,
which I believe
he's always had.
Excellent
musically. |

Silverchair -
Lever |
The second
"mindless?" rock
song on Diorama,
but has more
hooks in it than
Mule. The
chugging guitar
in the verses is
plain deadly,
WOW!! We can't
stress enough
how COOL this is
we're hearing
this! I did
actually listen
to this one more
than the others
on that album in
December 2006.
IT ROCKS
BALLS!!!!!!! |
